Exhibit highlight Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA) was established in Koriyama city, Fukushima in April 2014 under a federal government’s policy on reconstruction of disaster affected region by Great East Japan earthquake in 2011. As a part of National Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), FREA aims to be a global innovation hub concerning renewables, through creative “Fukushima” technologies. FREA also contributes to revitalize the affected area, by developing new industries and human resources.
Toward intensive use of renewables, latest topics from core basic technologies to system integration will be introduced, focusing on "Smart Integration" by Energy Network Team, "Storage" by Hydrogen Energy Carrier Team, "Forecast Wind" by Wind Power Team, “Capturing Solar Energy” by Photovoltaic Power Team, "Blessings of the Earth" by Geothermal Energy Team and "Energy Saving using Underground" by Shallow Geothermal and Hydrogeology Team.
